Dan Gui Sichuan Cuisine: Reviews & Ratings
The perilla frog legs were amazing! Perfect balance of spicy and savory. Definitely one of my favorite dishes here.
Food was authentic (maybe Chongqing?), fresh ingredients. Haven’t had these flavors since we left China! Best Chili Chicken on the West Coast! The frog was really good! How did they get such fresh frog in the US!? The waitress Connie was really nice, and made our family feel really welcome! A lot like being back in China!!
We came in at 6. There was not much of a wait. Ample parking around the store and the parking lot We ordered cumin lamb, chilli chicken, green beans in garlic and steamed rice The chili chicken was great. Amazing Sichuan pepper dry rub and tossed in red chillis The cumin lamb was a disappointment as it was too salty for our liking and we had to blend a lot of rice to make it edible. A few bites in and we couldn't do it anymore. So boxed it up The green beans were amazing. Gently tossed in chilli oil, some garlic and crunchy to taste Overall food plus tips was 70$
Prepare for your taste buds to ascend up to heaven after eating all that spice, but really, the food's pretty good. The Fish Fillet with Pickled Chinese Cabbage was the main course for today's meal, with very aromatic (and spicy!) broth and very good fish (even as a seafood disliker, I found myself eating a few). My favorite was the Mashed Eggplant with Century Egg and Chilies. I love century egg, and this dish was expertly prepared. (Just look at the eggplant! It's still purple!) Some at this table said it was a bit salty, but I think it was alright. The Sweet and Sour Ribs and Dry Pot Cauliflower were my saviors, since everything was making my tongue go numb (I have no spice tolerance). I'd recommend eating the ribs when you feel like your mouth will explode (since the sauce helps), and the cauliflower to cool your mouth off afterwards. The staff are very nice and extremely efficient (just look at them go with clearing the tables and cleaning them)! Very nice place.
This is a Sichuan restaurant that leans more toward larger, shareable dishes rather than small plates. Overall, the flavors are bold and satisfying if you order the right items. Recommended: Century egg & eggplant with pounded chili (very fragrant), wasabi pork knuckle (surprisingly well balanced), spicy chicken (la zi ji), bullfrog, dry pot cauliflower, and the mixed stir-fry of liver and kidney. These dishes all have good seasoning and solid execution. Not recommended: Anything from the sizzling iron plate menu. the texture and flavor don’t really work here. Good choice for classic Sichuan comfort dishes, especially when dining with a group.
Excellent tasting food and the serving sizes are huge making it really value for money. We got the stir fried beef and house special fried rice and had a good amount of leftover between two of us. Stir fried beef was really flavor and would so well seasoned it'd pair well even with just plain steamed rice! The house fried rice had shrimp, pork, chicken and egg making it a great combo. Edit 1: Also the when they say spicy they mean it. I asked for 4/5 and the beef stir fry I could see had extra chillies and a good amount of kick more than prior when I had it. Edit 2: On third visit got spice level 4 beef again but this wasn't as spicy. And Szechuan spicy pork was more on sweet and spicy side. A bit too sweet for me.
As someone who has low spice tolerance the spicy food were not very good but my parents thought they tasted good. The duck was okay but not my personal favorite. I really liked the sweet and sour pork though. I strongly suggest the sweet and sour pork for people with a low spice tolerance and likes tomatoes (kinda taste like tomatoes)
- delicious squirrel fish - We ordered the squirrel fish 松鼠龍利魚 and the sweet and sour pork 糖醋里肌 for takeout tonight, and I picked them up around 5:30 pm. The restaurant was 60% full at that time, and there were 3 other takeouts waiting to be picked up. My experience here has been great, and I especially ordered stuff here since not many restaurants in Bellevue sell the squirrel fish. For some reason I just really want it for the lunar new year lol. They provided a separate container for the squirrel fish sauce, and I think it's definitely a dish that you need to enjoy in the restaurant. It's still great but it's just not the same. The sweet and sour pork was good and crunchy, but the two sauces were too similar, which was my fault. Overall I enjoyed the food here, and I really miss their chili mixed eggplant & preserved egg. It's something that I crave for every once in a while.
